RoyGreen & Protone – ‘Warman / Homeground / Navarro’ [Demand]

Demand Records continue to throw spanners in the works of traditional drum & bass, having topped the charts with EastColor’s release Dreams, they are now gearing up to unleash three new tracks from RoyGreen & Protone to coincide with Record Store Day.

The release features three brand new tracks of Warman, Homeground and Navarro from the Austrian D&B heroes; it’s their second out on Demand Records. Never sticking to one style or being complacent, each track features 3 different vibes, why? Because fuck your conformity. There’s stuff you could bray your mate to on the dance floor, stuff to send you west mid set and some stuff to smooch your lady to late night… if you’re in to that of course.

Warman is like an anthem to get lairy and start vibing heavy in the club to, everything about this cut seems to bring serious head nodding to big sounds, you can sense if this gets dropped there’d be a bit of a ruckus. A real mouth full of gritty sustenance, the MC rages throughout the whole track… BUST IT MANNA MANNA WAR MAN!

Homeground is the stomper, clambering in with fast pace, it’s time for the revolution… or so says one of a myriad of samples distorting their way through this track, RoyGreen & Protone have morphed drum & bass into a triple headed Hydra on this one. Booming with a heavy bassline and looping drums, the drops are placed steadily in time with these pretty wicked sounds, which can only be described as sounding like a ray gun being fired into a black hole.

Navarro is stunningly fluid, stone cut piano keys are in harmony with the rhythm and a female vocal snippet we’re teased with, supplying drum & bass that’s got plenty of liquidity. RoyGreen and Protone have a real skill in creating this sort of stuff, with seeming effortlessness, yet this release see’s them pushing contemporary drum & bass to the foray, forgetting rules so brazenly stuck to in the genre.
