Robert Logan – ‘Extasis’ EP [Slowfoot]

Back in 2007, Composer and producer Robert Logan’s LP debut Cognessence earnt him an array of rave reviews and support.

Only 19 at the time of release, the BBC called him “…something of a prodigy… a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find.” A second album Inscape and a clutch of EP’s garnered yet more praise and cemented Logan’s reputation as an immensely talented artist.

In spite of all this, since 2009 things have been somewhat quiet in Robert’s corner – at least on the dance music release front. Having spent time focusing his attentions on composing music for film and TV, with production credits on mass including one Oscar winning and one Oscar nominated documentary, he has taken some time away from producing seriously for the electronic scene – with just a few heavy remixes popping up here and there intermittently.

However, the silence is over. Yesterday he released a new EP entitled Extasis on Slowfoot Records. Bearing his classic hallmarks, namely razor-sharp programming and a mastery of sonic architecture coupled with a strong melodic instinct, tracks on the EP range from the skittering arpeggios of Iris, with its faint echoes of early Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, to the grimey sci-fi hip-hop shuffle of Bear Beat and the infectious bounce of MSIPY – a moody homage to minimal techno.
