Pedram – ‘Nina’ / ‘Immaturity’

Ordinarily we reserve these pink posts for releases that have either dropped the same day or, perhaps, at a stretch, the day before. They are, after all, filed under “Fresh Out The Gate”, and I guess the hope is that we’re helping employers everywhere get poor value for money as their staff/ravers log on to find out what’s hit the virtual shelves of Beatport or Juno that very morning.

Sometimes we’ll be a bit cheeky and tell you about one that isn’t even available yet, justifying it by the fact that, having farted around all afternoon mixing promos and stuff, by the time we muster up the willpower to write a story, the sun is rising in Sydney on the release date. So, technically, we’re not telling porkies by saying it’s out that day.

But what we don’t do, generally speaking, is talk about tracks that have been on sale all week. I mean it just makes us look shit, doesn’t it? Anymore than two days after the release, even if it’s on a label of the vaguest calibre, you could write the EP title back to front in Google and it would throw up 7 trillion pages full of Soundcloud widgets and embedded YouTube players, while some obscure trade publication like ‘Potato Farming Monthly’ is tipping the artist to play the main stage at Creamfiields next summer.

But we’re breaking the rules with this one because we’ve noticed that, of the myriad posts about the latest EP out on Born Electric, not one manages to explain much about the artist, Pedram, other than the fact he’s from Sheffield and recently played at Boiler Room. But, surely, anyone who has headlined that most exclusive of clubs and signed to James Zabiela’s very own label will invariably have a colourful career behind them?…

Of course they will. Nonetheless, it’s practically impossible to find out anything about the guy online by searching for “Pedram” – hence the reason people are struggling to shed much light on him. He doesn’t have a Soundcloud page under that name (or if he does, he only has 3 followers, which would seem a tad low under the circumstances) nor is there an obvious Facebook presence for a high-flying Pedram who looks like he could take to the decks at Boiler Room with any sort of conviction. You can search high and low, but unless you’re aware that Pedram is the artist formerly known as Pedramovich, you won’t learn much more about him.

Ironically, Pedram is actually his real name – Pedram Mehrshahi, to be precise. Pedramovich is a moniker, but one that when passed to an army of Googlebots will see them scurry off in all directions to retrieve untold pieces of information about the Iranian-born, Yorkshire-bred producer, who has come to the attention of Anja Schneider, Tom Budden, Paul Woolford and many others, including, of course, JZ.

Anyway, now you know how to find out more – and there is a lot more to know – so get on with it. In the meantime we’ll leave you with his new EP which is, quite frankly, stunning…
