Unlike some of The Noise Gate massive (me, mainly) Diegetics isn’t exactly cracking on bit, whereas I’m fast approaching the age where a big night out turns into a full week off sick. I am, officially, slightly decrepit, so you can imagine my surprise on checking out his track list for TNG Podcast 004 to find a choice bit of disco that was recorded when I was just 1 year old.
Shannon’s ‘Let The Music Play’ is not alone among 80s classics on this mix, either, with Phuture’s groundbreaking 1987 bomb ‘Acid Trax’ also getting a welcome airing. For those that don’t already know, Phuture were Marshall “the father of house music” Jefferson & DJ Pierre, and their work is widely acknowledged as the first to feature the acid sound of the Roland TB-303.
But this is not a vintage mix by any stretch of the imagination – another quick glance at the track list reveals some of the very best forthcoming tracks that we’ve been lucky enough to have land in our inbox over the last few weeks. So big Props to Diegetics and all the labels that kindly furnish us with cracking tunes!
Pour yourself a pint of mild – the weekend has landed!
