New Mantra is back with a new release, showcasing smooth beats that lull you into a tranquil daze and make you feel like the weight of reality has been lifted from your shoulders.
The face behind New Mantra is Southampton boy, Sam Cooper, who is continually proving to be a great success with the online music industry. Gaining popularity with his debut solo album ‘Living Image of Aten’ earlier this year, Sam then proceeded to release ‘Manzoni’ which enraptured many with its soft, relaxed beats, expressing an array of electronica and alternative r&b vibes.
The latest release ‘Someone New’ is a remix of Banks’ soft symphony. Giving the original a beautiful, moving twist. New Mantra chose this track to work on after falling in love with the melody and delicate beats that ooze into your ears as you listen.
The beats in the remix are much deeper than the original, giving it a smooth, r&b feel which flows beautifully and naturally. However, it is clear that the main focus of the track is on the voice of Banks herself. With her unique tone and delicious lyrics, it is no wonder New Mantra felt compelled to give it a remix. The vocals have been pitched down with the intention to haunt the listener, making you remember the tone long after the track has finished playing.
The feel of New Mantra’s rework is much darker than the original, which could be perceived as soft and subtle. This edition hits you a little harder, holding more substance, power and punch. The original version was a great foundation for the mix as it already had a great tone and feel.
When New Mantra came to work on the track, he stated: “The sounds and instruments I used all just came naturally to me.” The most noticeable feature seems to be the honesty and purity the mix manages to convey even after editing. This just goes to show that, sometimes, less really is more.
The Southampton DJ has more juicy tracks lined up for us this year too, as he is set to release another single in the coming weeks. The upcoming release is said to be similar to this track with a more upbeat tempo. Keep your ears pinned, we can’t wait!
