Genres crumble into dust on two huge new albums from the NexGen Music stable – Fighting with Fire by Mitad and The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney by Unsub vs Alexis K – which take over the record store, squat in the aisles and start a full-blown fire.
The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney is the first release on new NexGen sub-label Pure Heart Dirty Mind Records (PHDM), an imprint run by Lily Luck, who is the entire creative mind behind its maiden record – Unsub and Alexis K (and n0isemakeR, for that matter) are the same person working under different aliases.
The result is a mesmerising mishmash of genres, uncompromisingly tough basslines and hard guitar riffs balanced out by mellowed electronica and soulful jazz inspirations across 13 tracks broadly grouped into drum & bass, dubstep and downtempo.
The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney is out now on Pure Heart Dirty Mind Records.
Electronic duo Mitad marries the production of Sicily-born Sal Lo Cascio (known for crafting deep instrumental house tracks as Sallok) with Katherine Downham’s vocals, a borderless partnership brought together by an online talent website and kept moving with the power of technology.
Their debut EP keeps the tempo moving with a 50/50 split of house and drum & bass, all precision-engineered with a light touch and a heavy groove. Fighting with Fire is out in May on NexGen Music, and promises to be the first of many from the experimental duo which signed to the label a year ago.
