The minimal sound, at least on occasion, apparently, can be heard at most Melbourne clubs these days. But to catch a continuous hour or so of it, free from the invasion of an intrepid Hardwell-esque electro house crescendo and horn-laden breakdown, it seems, is not so common.
Interestingly, though, while many around him have hammered away at a particularly enthusiastic brand of EDM known as “Melbourne Bounce”, which appears, strangely enough, to draw a shred of influence from minimal house and techno, Sammy La Marca has been somewhat more quietly at work turning out meticulously-crafted material that doesn’t just resemble good minimal stuff but pretty much embodies it, albeit with an extra helping of bass.
La Marca’s bootleg of Minimal Allianz’s ‘Brush Your Teeth’, the bass-heavy minimal techno cut released earlier this year on Switzerland’s self-proclaimed “most scandalous dance label”, ScandalBizz, is a case in point. Furthermore, its the second excellent rework that he’s made available free on his Soundcloud page in as many weeks, following his remix of ‘Kids These Days’ by Ryan Riback & John Baptiste (which we thought we might as well include in this post as well).
Sammy would like all credit to go to Minimal Allianz and their label, but we’re sure both would doff their hats at his remix skills, especially given that he’s still in his teens. If not, then they’ll almost certainly appreciate the exposure, since his following has sailed past the 6,000 mark recently and shows no sign of slowing down…
