This month Manchester club night Swing Ting launches its new in-house record label.
Over the past few years residents Samrai, Joey B, Platt, Murlo and MC Fox have worked hard to make Swing Ting a household name amongst savvy Mancunion clubbers: establishing the night as a go-to source for the freshest cuts of afrobeat, dancehall, garage, bashment, UK funky and more.
Holding down a residency in the basement of Northern Quarter venue Soup Kitchen, the crew consistently pull in a buzzing crowd of revellers wherever they go: teaming up with Hipsters Don’t Dance for a massive Carnival blowout in London this summer, and more recently tearing up the top floor of Antwerp Mansion in a collaboration with Rich Reason’s forward-thinking bass night Hit&Run.
The first official Swing Ting release comes from Fox and Brackles; the latter of whom has become a familiar face at nights and was responsible for said tearing-up of the Mansion last month with an incredible high-energy set. ‘Skank’ offers up pretty much what it says on the tin, and as FACT pointed out “almost feels like a microcosm for Swing Ting’s musical policy” with its mix of garage, dancehall and UK funky influences.
Whilst it goes without saying that there’s more variety on offer at Swing Ting than just these three genres, the overall mixed-genre party vibe that’s generated feels very fitting for their first release. Set to drop on November 17th, Swing Ting 001 will come in EP form: with ‘Skank’ accompanied by a remix from Famous Eno (featuring a guest verse from Trigganom!) and a tasty second cut from Brackles entitled ‘Carbon’.
The ST family will also be launching their label with a proper knees-up this Saturday (15th) at Soup Kitchen, so if you’re in Manchester check out the event page here and get yourself down for a proper good time!
You can check the preview of ‘Skank’ below and get on Brackles’ SoundCloud to hear more. Pre-orders are available here. Happy vibing!
