Three years on from their debut collaboration ‘Routes’ and LV and Joshua Idehen are gearing up to release their second album ‘Islands’. Anticipation surrounding the new release began to build with the release of ‘Imminent’ – which went on to spawn a huge online remix competition (our favourite being G.S.ONE’s Snapshot mix) that took SoundCloud streams by storm – and continued yesterday with the release of second single ‘Shake’.
Whilst their first album ‘Routes’ focused on an examination of themes of life in modern London, ‘Islands’ takes on more expansive themes of displacement and isolation through Joshua Idehen’s lyrical content. Whilst the album’s first single release ‘Imminent’ was very brash and in-your-face with its bass-heavy attention-grabbing production, follow up single ‘Shake’ is more mellow with tropical-sounding melodics and rolling percussion taking centre stage.
On ‘Shake’ Josh’s voice is deployed in fragements, encouraging the rhythm along as steel drums twinkle and energetic drum work drives things forward. As the track winds on it builds into a rolling, bubbly party tune punctuated by nifty percussion breaks that emphasise the overall motion of the tune.
Their second album ‘Islands’ is due for release on 15th September through Keysound Recordings. Take a listen to ‘Shake’ below and see what you think for yourself!
