The Noise Gate has a brand new online editor – electronic music journalist Lloyd Wall.
Lloyd joins us having previously worked for a variety of publications including the Nubian Times, UK Festival Guides and Summer Festival Guides – regularly supplying articles, interviews, features and photos while covering festivals such as SW4, Hideout and Eastern Electrics not to mention club nights like Manchester’s Warehouse Project.
A veteran house and tech correspondent embedded on the frontlines in clubs across Manchester and Leeds. From Sankeys to Sound Control, Mission to Mint as well as venues and raves the length and breadth of the country on those dark nights and cold mornings.
His summers are spent accessing all areas at the best festivals Europe has to offer whether it’s Sonar in Barcelona, Exit in Serbia or Outlook in Croatia, clocking up air miles, sun tans and enough stories to last a lifetime.
We’re all looking forward to a big 2014 with Lloyd on board!
We caught up with him for a quick Q & A…
Favourite club: It has to be Sankeys. Just for the longevity and being in my hometown. It should be back with a vengeance again soon to give the city a little boost. It never fails to deliver.
Favourite festival: I really enjoyed Parklife but I’ve used the hometown card on Sankeys! With festivals it’s hard to say because they all have their own style and charm going on, but all-in-all I’m gonna go with Hideout 13. The boat parties, the pool parties, the lot.
Best festival set of the summer: Toss-up between Scuba and Loco Dice at Hideout 13. Had to get a second dose at WHP last week! Of all time I’d have to say my favourite festival sets have been Oneman, Tiga and Paul Kalkbrenner at Exit in 11. I’ll never forget Too Many DJ’s at Sonar in 2010 and Prodigy at Leeds in ’02! Big fan of Darius Syrossian as well and finally got to see him smash it at EE.
Song of the year: Of 2013!? It’s unfair ‘cos a year is a long time. There’s so many big tracks from early on I don’t play as much and so many newer ones that haven’t had time establish themselves ahead of the pack. Having said that, according to my iTunes, my top played track is Interminable by Yoshitaca, the Lauhaus Remix. It’s not a foolproof indicator at all but credit where credit’s due. I can’t stop playing the Catz ‘n Dogz version of Thomas Schumacher’s Hush at the minute though!
Dream destination: Berghain!! When am I going to Berghain?! I feel ashamed. Hopefully soon, I said it at the start of this year and I’m saying it going into the next, but Lloyd Wall is going to Berghain in 2014!!
