J. Albert – ‘Vertigo Contract’

J. Albert – ‘Vertigo Contract’

Brooklyn-based producer J. Albert makes his debut on Cult Trip with new EP ‘Vertigo Contract.

Australian imprint Cult Trip set up in May 2014 with their impressive debut from Sludge Ball. After a silence of almost a year, they’re back and have called upon upcoming techno producer J. Albert to deliver the second release in their catalogue. The label takes a heavy focus on putting out seriously raw analogue techno jams and J. Albert certainly fits the bill.

‘Vertigo Contracto’ kicks us off, with its demonic snare working with a ridiculously aggressive kick drum. The whole track is insanely dark and distorted, snarling like a rabid dog a first, but a high pitched chilling synth rings its way through. The synth ensures this isn’t just another gritty techno track, accompanied by the (almost) pretty piano chords that move simply on the first beat of every four. This is big room warehouse business at its best.

On the B, an eerie whispering vocal soaks up an unsettling sombre atmosphere as a warm low-end bassline takes hold, and carries the track through. As odd as it may seem, you begin to find comfort in this one as it proceeds and introduces new elements. Heavily filtered hats and a clicky snare provide rhythmic movement, while industrial crashes add a brighter dynamic amongst a comforting reverberated train horn-like sound. ‘Holed Up’ tones down the aggressive edge of the A whilst developing upon its themes, leaving both tracks feeling entirely at home together on the same piece of wax.

There’s something here for all moods and in the right DJs hands both the A and the B will cast a serious spell over any dance floor! Take a listen below, hit up Cult Trip on Twitter @CT_Recs and pick up a copy of the record for yourself over here.
