Bristolian producer Hodge comes forward with a new EP ‘Mind Games / Flashback’ for Hotline Recordings.
Following some stellar records for Punch Drunk last year, in 2014 Hodge has had a good time of it: working on releases with Livity Sound’s Dnuos Ytivil label and Berceuse Heroique as well as tearing up dance floors over the country with his DJ sets. Now he’s just released ‘Mind Games / Flashback’ through Brstiolian label Hotline Recordings, putting his name to a small but precise catalogue that includes records from Kahn and Neek, Rachael, Commodo and Lurka.
Hodge’s ‘Mind Games / Flashback’ EP serves as the label’s fifth release. Not ones to rush things, prior to this their last release was Commodo’s ‘F_ck Mountain’ which dropped at the beginning of the year. Coming forward with two contrasting underground techno cuts, on this freshly released EP Hodge delivers two top notch beats that reiterate (not that we realy needed reminding) why he’s such a hot commodity right now.
‘Mind Games’ kicks forward with deep carnivalesque kicks before leading forward with chilling morphed pads and ominous steel drum melodics: pulling together references from both grime and UK funky in one. ‘Flashback’ on the other hand is characterised by eerie spiralling melodic synths that wouldn’t sound out of place on a sci-fi movie soundtrack, propelled forward by jittering and propulsive bass kicks.
On this new EP Hodge provides two contrasting underground techno cuts; whilst A-side ‘Mind Games’ is flirty with a weighty swinging rhythm, on the flip ‘Flashback’ errs on the terser side of things. Both sweet cuts, we highly recommend you check out the preview for ‘Mind Game’ below.
RwdFwd’s limited run of 85 Special Editions may already be sold out, but you can still pick up a copy of the release (limited for 500 pressings) for yourself here.
