Ahead of the release of his debut EP Another Artist, rising Chinese-English artist and producer GZ Tian has shared his new single, ‘Tokyo Girl’ from his forthcoming project.
‘Tokyo Girl’ moves away from the trap beats and rap stylings GZ Tian has displayed in his previous singles, ‘Moody Kid’ and ‘Yin Yang’. Filled with jazz-inspired horns and soft piano chords, ‘Tokyo Girl’ explores a mellow side to GZ Tian, who showcases his singing abilities for the first time.
Manchester-born GZ Tian was raised in a musically gifted family, with his Mum being an international circuit performer of the Guzheng (Chinese harp) and his Dad enjoying much success in punk and jazz music. Drawing inspiration from a broad range of artists, such as the late XXXTentacion, Roy Hargrove and Outkast, GZ Tian marries this with the influences of his East Asian background and his current London living to create a genre-bending sound which falls in between emo hip hop and jazz.
Bringing his jazz and R&B influences to the forefront for ‘Tokyo Girl’, GZ Tian’s new single is a superb display of his diverse sound. Another taste of what’s to come, GZ Tian’s hotly anticipated new debut EP, Another Artist, is out 27th March.
