Rising Chinese-English singer/songwriter and producer GZ Tian has announced his forthcoming ‘Another Artist’ EP, due out 27th March via Believe Digital. GZ Tian has also shared the first single and music video from the EP called ‘Moody Kid’, out today.
‘Moody Kid’ is an emotionally-charged slice of modern hip-hop, paired with a lo-fi, psychedelic music video which shows Tian giving an effortless performance of his new track. GZ Tian’s latest serving follows his 2018 debut single, ‘Laid Back’ and is a strong display of his genre-bending sound, anticipating what’s to come from his upcoming project.
“‘Moody Kid’ was one of the first songs I made for the EP – I wrote it about some of the people I had around me at the time, people that would show fake love and ruin my mood,” GZ Tian explains. “I wanted the song to sound fun and fresh; a song which you can relate to conceptually but also bounce to.”
Manchester-born GZ Tian was raised in a musically gifted family, with his Mum being an international circuit performer of the Guzheng (Chinese harp) and his Dad enjoying much success in punk and jazz music. Drawing inspiration from a broad range of artists, such as the late XXXTentacion, Roy Hargrove and Outkast, Tian marries this with the influences of his East Asian background and his current London living to create a genre-bending sound which falls in between emo hip hop and jazz.
A truly fresh-sounding track from an exciting new UK artist, ‘Moody Kid’ marks a new chapter for GZ Tian, with his Another Artist EP dropping 27th March.
