To hear the latest music from Goosensei on a club sound system is something of a privilege: one that should be taken advantage of at any given moment, and currently highly unlikely to be experienced.
This could all be about to change, though, as his ‘Summon’ EP appears to have been tentatively released today, one week ahead of the previously slated date.
I first heard a preview of ‘Fiyah’ while at a listening event in Birmingham. Local dub entrepreneur Goosensei is a busy man – not only creating absolute fire but also hosting his own showcasing event in a Caribbean social club in the heart of Birmingham’s cultural quarter, Digbeth.
The EP (Goosensei’s second to date) consistently displays strong drum patterns and minimal synths. The drums are what hold the EP together, and they do so with such cemented potency.
“I first linked up with the label as a fan of their music” says Goosensei (real name, Mat). “Dubs Alive are based in San Francisco, I sent them a demo on Soundcloud and asked if they would be interested in releasing the tracks, and they said yes!”
‘Interrupt’ holds particular value; the European-like chords and warehouse-esque echos fill the room with the feeling of engagement with each and every instrument, almost making you question whether or not a live set of drums would complete the sentiment.
With seven tracks on one EP it would be easy to assume that there would be a few weak pieces included, but you’d be mistaken. This EP could easily be split into two halves whilst still offering value for money.
The ‘Summon’ EP is due for general release on March 24th via Dubs Alive, however we’ve noticed that Juno Download has it a little early. The EP features remixes from Krytikal, Noah D and Earth Is Flat.
