Garnier – ‘Enchanté’

French DJ and producer Laurent Garnier continues his venture into the underground, releasing two new tracks ‘Enchanté’ and ‘pǝsnɟuoɔ’. Released through Alex Jones and Jamie Russells’ house and techno imprint Hypercolour, whose roster includes artists such as Eats Everything and Maya Jane Coles, Garnier smashes it with a new release that holds up to the label’s high standard of production.

Having set out in 2013 to expose his music further across the globe, Laurent Garnier decided to reach out to a number of respected independent labels and release a series of stylised underground collaborations. A godfather of electronic music, Garnier was a resident at Manchester’s Hacienda in the eighties and knows a thing or to about producing a great track. Having approached labels with their own strong identity, sound and fan base, he kicked off this new project with Chicago’s Still Music in February of this year with the ‘AF0490’ single. Since then, he has gone on to issue singles on Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons, Musique Large and the MCDE label, and now the fifth release comes through UK underground champions Hypercolour.

A side ‘Enchanté’ is a 122BPM roller. Laying the foundations with tight but swinging drum work, Garnier introduces pitch-shifted strings and filtered vocals as the track builds to an infectious and soaring height. A track that will be soon taking over dance floors worldwide, we predict this will be a late summer burner. On the flip, ’pǝsnɟuoɔ’ is a straight up techno belter. Going straight for the kill, the track gives a heavy nod to Detroit minimalists Robert Hood and Jeff Mills. Offsetting battering 909 snares with harmonic choir pads, Garnier constructs a powerful slice of techno with thunderous rumbles and futuristic bleeps.

With the vinyl release set for 18th August and the digital for 1st September, this looks set to be a very special release from both Garnier and Hypercolour so make sure to pick up your pre-orders here.
