Following on from his break-out success with last year’s ‘Track 1’, ‘Track 2’ and ‘Save Us’, London-based Chris Kaz returns with his latest self-produced single ‘Track 03’, out early June.
Kaz is a multi-talented artist, composer, film-maker, who creates an oxymoronic, sensory world for the listener to immerse themselves in; both haunting and celestial. His eclectic heritage of Greek Cypriot and German Sri-Lankan is mirrored in the atmospheric ‘Track 03’, which is an amalgamation of various styles, fused together with characteristics that call to mind the likes of The Weeknd, Sampha and The Glitch Mob. Kaz delivers velvety vocals reminiscent of James Blake, soaring pads which are Aphex Twin-esque and a controlled chaotic ambience similar to that of Ben Khan. It is difficult to categorise the sound that Chris creates, yet on ‘Track 03’ he continues to pioneer his own brand of dark future soul, fusing a minimalistic vocal style and evolving electronic elements, to forge a dark yet peaceful track which is ideal to unwind to and get lost in.
On creating the single Chris states “with ‘Track 03’ I slowed down the dancehall beat to create more swing and groove – the outcome sounded more like me than it did before. Instead of classical harmonies on an experimental beat, I got a really deep cultured track that I could drop my samples and vocals on where it connects more with a dance and sofa audience as well as a head phone audience; uplifting yet still deep.”
