I would just like to start by pointing out that ‘Menajatrois’ is actually spelt ‘Ménage à trois’. Had to get that out of the way. You’d think that Francois and Louis would know that, what with them both having French names.
Coming out on June 16th, this fable tells the tale of fellow who has finally engaged in a sexual encounter involving two other participants – although the gender of the third party member is not specified and I like to imagine it was a huge bearded man. The vocals have a distinct R&B feel and it’s refreshing to hear a song suited to the club scene with so much lyrical content as opposed to the odd exclaimed phrase bobbing in a sea of beats and sound effects. It also avoids monotony by adding complimentary sounds borrowed from the pop and dubstep genres, but without overdoing it and making the full product sound over-active. What’s more, unlike many popular songs today,it isn’t just the same verse repeated throughout with a slightly augmented pitch.
However, the lyrics aren’t exactly a stroke of genius. My favourite line: ‘fresh fragrance, no BO’. Obviously Francois has high standards and needs all of his threesome members to use plenty of Right Guard.
The song comes in three formats: original, the DJ Q remix or the Bad Habit remix. It is immediately evident that the DJ Q remix is tailored for clubs, and would incite booty popping and slutdrops alike in any kind of group setting. The Bad Habit remix is a little lighter, employing elements of unexpected instruments such as the violin, which improves the overall sound by adding variety and counteracting the unarguably sleazy subject matter. The original seems to find a solid middle group between them, so if you’ve finished the complete works of Shakespeare and are looking for a gripping story, give the eloquent linguist Francois a listen.
