Festival Guide: Eastern Electrics returns

Eastern Electrics goes back to its roots this year with a one-day event you cannot afford to miss. On Saturday 2nd August, over 30 internationally-acclaimed artists take to seven stages to play out in front of a 10,000-strong crowd at Hatfield House, just north of the capital.

One thing you can always guarantee about EE is a dirty lineup and this year is no exception. The lineup is more carefully curated this time around and focuses on pure quality at the top end of the underground. Last summer’s bill was phenomenal in terms of the sheer quantity of house-hold names but strangely enough, the more carefully selected group for EE 14 is a much more mouth-watering proposition.

Our picks of the fezzie are themselves a delicate choice of some of the game’s most respected, alongside some of the rawest sounds about at the minute. We had BPitch Control chief Ellen Allien and ‘Drone Logic’ producer Daniel Avery in mind but they’re not alone in those categories. Elsewhere over the day and night DMZ’s Loefah brings cutting edge 140, there’s deep house dons Waifs & Strays, Laura Jones and the omnipresent Route 94.

The Switchyard, a fortress of a stage made from shipping containers, returns as does the Igloovision dome, which, with its state-of-the-art visuals and production was pound for shekel probably the best arena at last year’s event. The Eastern Electrics outdoor main stage will host the likes of Art Department, Kerri Chandler, Steve Lawler and Maxxi Soundsystem. Mulletover handle the Switchyard while Rinse get their own stage boasting the RC1 Soundsystem.

Tickets are available here and are a snip, starting at £49.99 (the now sold out first wave was less than £30!) and tickets for the official afterparty at Coronet, London are up for grabs as well. Too good to miss, zero commitment. If you’re doing anything that weekend, make it EE.

Check our set selection below, including a super fresh Daniel Every mix from Rinse FM and Loefah going in on Boiler Room.
