TNG is delighted to offer our exclusive giveaway of Principal Dean’s remix of ‘Bad4U’ by Tanika ahead of his upcoming debut release on Loveless Records.
The ‘Get Done’ EP out on the 24th of December features two original tracks from the Vermont-based producer plus five remixes! The tracks combine a wealth of different elements from various musical schools with a distinct analog twist that defines the Principal’s sound. Hints of trap, electronica, dubstep and house in this classical-futuristic offering which is a crisp yet trippy foray into previously uncharted territory – certainly for UK crowds.
An express-train to the future, Principal Dean’s own two productions on the EP, ‘Get Done’ and ‘Hide Your Jewelry’ feature a glitchy 808 sound with FX and synths that slide about the mix with plenty of portamento. Skin-tight productions, an arpeggiated freshness and Hide Your Jewelry’s flurried 4×4 finish left us questioning why they had to finish so soon!? Of the remixes, Koloah’s version of Get Done comes with more of a tech-house vibe as we float down the neon-lit strips of electronica. The Thomas White ‘juke’ edit of the title track is noticeably trappier with the same build and release of tension and expansive drops but with a choppier drum-track and a greater sense of urgency than the other two mixes. The 813 remix of Hide Your Jewelry is a feel-good addition with a definite early ‘10s dubstep aura about it. Also featured in the release are remixes from Fellow Vermonter Snakefoot and New Jersey’s Whiskers Po.
As for the exclusive free giveaway, Bad4U is more than enough to whet the appetite ahead of Get Done’s arrival next week. Maybe it’s too much ‘GTA’ but we found it impossible to listen to the intro without hearing the voice of Giles Peterson bringing the track in. Tanika’s seductive vocal guides us blindly and unwittingly into a super-hype switch-up. Mega busy drops either side of soothing builds are the distinctive Principal Dean sound and the reason we’re pleased to offer this track exclusively to our readers!
