Etch – ‘Chemotaxis’ EP

Since making his debut through Dusk and Blackdown’s Keysound Recordings in 2013, Brighton producer Etch has been very much on our radar. Last year he captured our attention with his remix of SOPHIE’s ‘Lemonade’, which we premiered on the site for all your lovely lot back in September, and even more recently he drew us in again with his new EP ‘Chemotaxis’.

Having established himself as a specialist when it comes down to producing rolling, hard-hitting junglist frequencies, Etch is a longstanding Rinse FM favourite and receives continued support and airplay from the likes of Brackles, N-Type and Oneman.

At the beginning of December he unveiled two new tracks from his latest EP ‘Chemotaxis’, namely ‘Green Park’ and ‘Just A Little Vibe’, as well as giving away another track (not included on the EP but still, it fits right in) entitled ‘Mellodee’ as an extra free download via MixMag.

The new EP, out now through Sony imprint Space + Time Records, features a host of floaty jungle-esque rollers; all decidedly on the mellow side, and (dare we say it) slightly lacking the forward-thinking edge he demonstrated in earlier hits like ‘Hyrbid’ and ‘Sounds’.

That’s not to say it doesn’t work, there are definitely enjoyable moments on the EP. The title track ‘Chemotaxis’ is both soothing and intricate, held together with rushing percussion and groovy bass, whilst Etch’s revision of Prismatic’s ‘Third Person Lurkin’ grabs our attention with skittish drum work and soft pads.

Available to pick up now, take a listen to the EP preview below and pick up your own copy here. Furthermore, download bonus track ‘Mellodee’ from MixMag here.
