Elijah Simmons – ‘Pisces’ EP [Kompakt]

Elijah Simmons – ‘Pisces’ EP [Kompakt]

If you could be an ‘underground’ upcoming producer, and you were creating a “what to do, to get up all in the industry’s grill” list, what would be the things you would want on there?

Selected bookings in great clubs around the world? Shows with some well respected names? A damn few plays on your Soundcloud? Release some tracks on a killer label? Or perhaps a couple of 00’s on the pages you tweet shit from? And don’t front… because we all tweet utter shit.

Well, Elijah Simmons isn’t doing too bad then. He’s certainly gaining momentum as his debut EP readies itself to be released out on Kompakt’s records next month… I’m guessing it won’t be long before he’s singing Nelly. The Pisces EP is a little beaut. The opening cut, maintaining the same name, is a pinch of the stuff that Kompakt have been going for of late.

Without sounding all Gok Wan, it’s gorgeously layered with some figure altering kicks, it keeps climbing too, melting even, adapting to sonic atmospheres, perhaps like the Pisces horoscope? Nah that’s too corny. And you expected me to start chatting about synths and shit.

Pisces is, however, a very impressive debut. Textures like this are proving big in 2015, what with Dauwd killing it and all, oh and have you heard Dave DK’s new album? Stunning! What a surprise that it’s all out on Kompakt (cue the Monkey covering his eyes emoji).

The second track on the EP is entitled… Scorpi? Has Elijah got a kink for Mystic Meg? Never mind, if he does, it’s working for him because the both of these tracks are exquisite. Scorpi is slower to start, but still, wait till it knocks, the keys elevating the rhythm up, and up, and up, quite the piece of work Elijah, bravo.

Anyway rather than rambling, check him out, fans of Dauwd, Fort Romeau and Roman Fluegel will enjoy this. One thing I will say though, this sound is getting bigger and bigger, reaching further out into the masses, how long before it’s being merked by Will.I.am?

The Pisces EP is out later this month on Kompakt.
