Rising singer-songwriter and global citizen Eli Lev is making the world a smaller place, one song at a time. Eli pens lyrics and melodies for everyday enlightenment—songs that resonate because they’re heartfelt, earthy, and offer the wisdom he’s gained through lifelong travel and self-discovery. Returning with a new upbeat release at the end of July, ‘Dancin’ on the Lawn’ blends Eli Lev’s signature folk sound with a pop-inflected summertime feel. With a funky danceable beat and an optimistic vibe, ‘Dancin’ on the Lawn’ sends a message of unity following the long period of time the world has faced closed off from others.
Eli Lev on the meaning behind the track:
“This song is about bringing the future into the present and celebrating being able to dance and sing with our fellow human beings again. Music festivals have been our modern-day tribal ritual – where everyone can come together and enjoy a space and feel the music and the moment and just dance and sing along. This song is at once calling out for something to happen where we can meet each other again through music, and also a declaration that it will happen again soon. When it does, I hope to see my fellow music fans out there, dancin’ on the lawn.”
Eli Lev’s inspiration for his previous releases came from his time spent as a teacher on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona where he learnt of indigenous traditions before becoming a full-time musician. Just as each cardinal direction holds unique characteristics in the Navajo tradition, so do each of the albums in Eli’s ‘Four Directions Project.’ Together, the series imaginatively and intrepidly connected spheres and generations within a body of work that is irresistibly uplifting, emotionally resonant, and down-to-earth authentic. Eli Lev’s EP series began in 2017 with ‘All Roads East’, with an alt-country/Americana sound that echoed the sounds of his youth. This was followed by ‘Way Out West’ in 2018 and ‘Deep South’ in 2019, which showed Eli embracing other genres into his work such as indie, rock and pop. The final piece and most recent release in 2021 was ‘True North’ a more introspective and acoustic lead project.
As well as his solo work, Eli Lev also makes music as part of the duo project Wild Whispers with his partner Megan Leigh. Outside of music Eli’s passions lie in exploring world-views such as Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Indigenous philosophies, Vipassana Meditation, and Ho’ponopono to name a few. For Eli, it is extremely important to see things from other perspectives, which is why his fan base ‘The Levitators’ is an all-inclusive community that brings together people from all kinds of backgrounds.
Eli’s releases have earned critical praise from Paste Magazine, American Songwriter, Buzzfeed, CBS Radio, AXS, and The Bluegrass Situation, and have received national folk radio support and placement on prominent Spotify playlists. In 2019, Eli Lev won multiple industry awards for his work: his second album Way Out West won a Washington Area Music Award (WAMMIE) for best Country/Americana album, while his single “Chasing Daylight” won a grand prize in the SAW Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Competition.
