The new single ‘Now We’re Cooking’ from Duke & The Dry Cleaners takes the band’s signature sound in a slightly different direction. Lead singer and founder of the band Oli Duke offers fast-paced vocalisation in the verses, before modulating into a chorus that is embellished with soulful harmonies. The self-assured lyrics are placed against a backdrop of spacey synth lines and a hooky horn riff, all culminating in a track that is aware of the band’s scintillating potential.
Speaking of the track, Oli Duke says: “This song was written after a music festival in the woods with an amazing group of people. I was trying to encapsulate that feeling of being surrounded by people you love and who you know will look out for you, and wanting to share that far and wide. It’s a bit different to our other songs but I think it maintains that funky undercurrent that drives and motivates us.”
Duke & The Dry Cleaners emerged on the London scene in 2017, pioneering a fresh strand of Acid Jazz. ‘Now We’re Cooking’ follows the band’s debut single ‘I Want To’, which was released earlier this year and received notable acclaim from blog coverage. The band have also been praised for their dynamic live performances, and are set to bring that kineticism to their studio recordings that will be released throughout the year. We can’t wait to hear what comes next from Duke & The Dry Cleaners.
