DJ Bander – ‘The Arrival’ EP

DJ Bander – ‘The Arrival’ EP

DJ Bander, aka Zachary Schnall, is a Brooklyn-born DJ and producer living in the sunny climes of L.A. Last week he followed up on his 2012 debut ‘Boomtown’ with ‘The Arrival’ EP: a cohesive body of work packed full of lush melodics and smooth beats.

Collaborating with singer/songwriter Taryn Blake on the four-track project, the pair come together to deliver a collection of downtempo and cinematic tracks. Opening with the instrumental ‘Relentless’ before introducing Taryn’s beautiful lyricism, the EP starts as it means to go on: with textured and soulful sounds.

DJ Bander, himself a multi instrumentalist trained in the piano and drums, mixes minimal beats layer upon layer as he produces to create an authentically orchestral experience which serves to provide some tempestuously visceral moments. Title track ‘The Arrival’ is ascertainably my favourite track: bringing together heavy frame-rattling baselines together with wistful, pop-style vocals reminiscent of Skream’s production circa 2010 and, more specifically, on ‘Outside The Box’,

On ‘Drifting’ Taryn’s lyrics continue with their romantic musings, with her voiced uncertainty emphasised by the introduction of soaring, melancholic strings and synths. With a continuation of the sultry grooves and heavy bass that distinguish the release as a whole, the release closes on ‘Rhinestone’. Neatly drawing the EP together by mirroring the opening track, DJ Bander ends ‘The Arrival’ with one final introspective “you can’t console me” from Taryn accompanied by a chorus of astral synths.

Out now via KID Recordings, check out the preview of the title track below and pick up your copy here.
