Derek Howell – ‘Siren’s Teeth’ EP

Derek Howell – ‘Siren’s Teeth’ EP

Texan progressive house producer, Derek Howell, has made his debut on Dju’s Mesmeric records with the ‘Siren’s Teeth’ EP.

In addition to the title track, the release features a second original cut, ‘The Looking Glass’, along with a dub mix of ‘Sirens Teeth’. All tracks, including the dub mix, are written and produced by Houston-based Howell, with no remixes slated for release at this stage.

It wouldn’t be surprising if a remix was in the pipeline, though, because The ‘Sirens Teeth’ EP has received widespread support and acclaim from a number of respected spinners in the run-up to its release. The likes of Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Nicolas Agudelo, Darin Epsilon and Kassey Voorn have all praised one or more of the tracks on the EP, with Voorn referring to Howell’s dub mix of the title track as “amazing”.

“Derek Howell has always been one of our favourite artists so, needless to say, we’re very proud to have him on Mesmeric for our new release,” said Dju. “If you were a fan of Derek’s classic, ‘Yah Yah’, you’re probably going to like ‘Siren’s Teeth’, as it’s pushing the modern progressive house sound with that same touch of melancholic euphoria, building up with multiple layers of groove and melody.”

The new EP follows a spree of highly regarded releases from Mesmeric earlier in the year, including LOKII’s ‘Outside EP’ (presented by Luke Chable), Verve & Sonic Union’s Drifting Away, and ‘Flannel Lime Parade’ by Rich Curtis, all of which have had the nod from key players including Digweed and Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West).

It’s perhaps the consistency of the label’s recent releases that has led Darin Epsilon to comment: “Mesmeric rules.”
