Deafkid Are We Deaf EP 19.06.2017
‘’Like a ghostly, more winsome version of Alt-J at their melodic best.’’ NME Critically acclaimed electronic production duo Deafkid return with new music for 2017 and are keen to show their development since their last release - Dialects EP. After a busy 2015/16 working with artists such as Will Joseph Cook, Emika and Pillars, Deafkid have returned with a four track EP. Produced, engineered and mixed by themselves in their cellar studio, the new record showcases their instrumental talents alongside their ear-captivating production, lush harmonies and thoughtful lyrics. Deafkid members Chris Lockington (UK) and Florian Sauvaire (FR) met whilst working together with Ghostpoet on his Mercury Nominated debut album and subsequent tours. The duo are obtaining avid listeners having accumulated over 340,000 Spotify plays from their last single “Rosary”, which made its debut on Lauren Laverne's BBC Radio 6 specialist segment Headphone Moment. Lead single “Ethics” is infectious with its main hooks coming from instruments such as the Mbira, and tubular bells coaxed along by heavy bass and smart percussion is soon joined by catching vocal performances from both members. Mastered by Matt Colton (Muse, Hot Chip, James Blake) it truly is a sonic gem. The Are We Deaf EP calls for repeat listens with each play revealing new intricacies and depths to each track, from their twisted take on the Indie sound with “Tension”, the smooth and sexy “Silence” and finishing with the beautifully wistful goodbye-for-now track “Cling-on”. Lyrical themes run deep within Deafkid and once absorbed reveal a frustration that seems very close, personal and extremely current, all ushered in by warm emotive vocals and strong harmonies.
