Daniel Steinberg – ‘In My World’

Forthcoming on Berlin-based label, Arms & Legs, is a new EP from alternative techno producer, Daniel Steinberg, an increasingly prominent figure on the German underground scene. His ‘In My World’ EP is due to land on November 25th, featuring three original cuts by Steinberg – ‘Gardezia’ and ‘Leiser Minelli’, in addition to the title track.

‘In My World’ follows the‘ Salamander’ EP and Daniel’s sophomore full-length record, ‘Treptow’, both released earlier this year. The EP is penned as a ‘whirlwind tour into his diverse world’ – Steinberg is well known for the broad range of unique sounds and influences that define his music, and this latest release is certainly in-line with that reputation. Though he has been producing unique, often quirky electronic music for the better part of two decades, it’s in recent years that he has really established himself as as a key figure among Berlin’s slew of talented artists.

The EP opens not with the title track but with ‘Gardezia’, which gets things off to an energetic start with classic rolling tech house percussion and a soft, ambient bassline, which lets a lead of jazzy organ keys take centre stage. ‘In My World’ steadies the pace a little but with kick drums that have no shortage of thump. The jazz theme continues courtesy of a plucked guitar and a sax lead that should be familiar to all, as should the vocal, for that matter. Winding down the pitch yet further, ‘Leiser Minelli’ wraps things up with a laid back piano groove.

Early support for the EP has come from the likes of Luke Solomon, Brett Johnson, Shur-I-Kan and Hugo, but given the take-up of Steinberg’s other 2013 releases, it’s a safe bet that there will be a few more prominent names joining that list in the coming weeks.
