Second single in and 21-year-old, Filipino born, Canadian based, singer-songwriter Dani Saldo is back and determined to get you up and dancing. Having released her debut single earlier this year, the synth-infused ‘Friends Don’t’ on the day of her 21 st birthday. Now she is ready to go with another summery, super-pop anthem, this time in the form of the uplifting, fist pumping, dance party inducing – ‘No Strings Attached’.
Oozing with an undeniable youth, NSA is a carefree summertime tune focussing on fun and young love. However, it comes with an undercurrent of sadness, as with all of Dani’s writing, there is more to this light-hearted tune than initially meets the ear…
“I want people to be able to both dance and cry to my music , because that’s something I personally do (maybe a little too often). This one has a big fat drum fill before the chorus and a very empty almost sobering bridge. I wanted to reflect the moments when you know you’re running from a problem or hurt and you’re just drunk off your ass dancing and crying about your ex and contrast them with the uncomfortable “Who the fuck am I? Why am I doing this? What do I do without my ex? I miss them”. The way it’s produced kinda reminds me of when you go to the washroom or step out of a party. It’s a weirdly sobering moment amidst all the noise. But then you step back in to dance and get wasted and forget after.”
As if lifted straight from the pages of her diary, Dani’s lyrical content is openly honest, genuine and relatable as she effortlessly laments on young love and self-discovery via moody melancholia and dreamy beats, oozing with a knowing nostalgia.
Citing her artistic influences as Julia Michaels, Joji, Lorde and LANY to name but a few, she engages and mirrors her own version of their conversational, easy-going lyricism. Fascinated by the nature of daydreams, Dani often explores the space in the mind that is saved for longing and escapism. A wonderland of ‘what if’s’ is her playground of enchantment when it comes to songwriting. Follow her journey as she sifts and deciphers through the puzzle pieces of life, discovering and unearthing her own unique place in this ever-evolving world.
Having trained at both ABS-CBN’s Star Magic in the Philippines and at none other than Berklee in LA, Dani is certainly no stranger to the music scene and is constantly creating, honing her skills and perfecting those soothingly sweet vocals. She is amidst the final touches of finishing her eagerly anticipated, debut EP “Heartache” due to be released later this year.
