Since the ‘Zoo Project Ibiza’s’ creation in 2007, it has seen a meteoric growth from an underground and almost secretive event, to one of the islands most visited parties. The setting of an old abandoned zoo may sound an unlikely venue for an event of its kind. However, once visited it makes perfect sense.
Testament to this is the way it has been graced by some of the world’s most talented DJ’s over the last 7 years. Throughout this period the Zoo Project has stayed true to itself – upholding its underground vibe whilst encompassing everyone who wishes to indulge in the “Zoo experience”. It’s safe to say, whether you are a zebra painted holiday maker or a seasoned Ibiza house enthusiast it is impossible have a bad time at the Zoo.
It was summer 2010 when I was first exposed to the delights of the Zoo Project and I still look back on that time with a sense of nostalgia. It is still hard to put a finger on what exactly made the Zoo experience so special…..was it the excitement filled taxi rides towards the hills of Benimussa? Was it witnessing the Minx Fx in the ‘Seal Pit’ amphitheatre for the first time? Was it the unique tech-house beats of residents such as Michael James, Federico Grazzini and Defex to name but a few? Or maybe it was a snowball effect of all these contributing factors, mixed with a band of like-minded revellers embracing this weird and wonderful party.
Fast forward 4 years and the Zoo project is still bringing the freshest, cutting edge and unique electronic music line ups Ibiza has to offer and Saturday September 6th is anything but an exception to this.
Topping the bill is a live set from the California-based techno heavyweight John Tejada. Famed for both his DJ and live sets containing eclectic assortments of techno ranging from low-down moody beats to energetic and pulsating club tracks – and his classic productions such as ‘Sweat on the Walls’ – The ‘Seal Pit’ is certainly in for a treat.
Also on the bill are Zoo Project favourites Taimur and Fahad, Evan Baggs, Binh, Acid Mondays and Karina, most of which are veterans of the Zoo decks and therefore know exactly what is needed to take the roof of the place (if it had one).
Expect lights, effects, dancers, animals (some real some not) and a tech-house infused carnival atmosphere. If the Zoo Projects motto is ‘We Zoo You’, then we most definitely Zoo you too, we can’t wait!
