Azealia Banks – ‘Heavy Metal And Reflective’

The fiery tongued female MC has long demonstrated a penchant for dance beats and collaborations with electronic producers. Returning with a sneak-peek release from her forthcoming album ‘Broke with Expensive Taste,’ Azealia Banks unveils a brand new video and track: ‘Heavy Metal And Reflective.’

Produced by Lil Internet, who has worked with Azealia in the past on ‘Yung Rapunxel’; ‘Heavy Metal and Reflective’ is a propulsive track, driven by heavy synths and energetic percussion on every beat. The first taste of new material from the newly independent artist since she decided to part ways with Polydor/Universal, Azealia comes in hard and assertive on the track. Referencing Tamagotchi’s and Micheal Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ in her lyrics, at just two and a half minutes this track races from start to finish on a surging blast of energy.

The video, uploaded yesterday, features Azealia acting out a storyline that essentially depicts her freeing herself from confines imposed by others. We first see her in bike leathers, hauled in a fireman’s lift and then tied to a chair amid scenes of bikers racing at speed through the arid desert. A subtitled translation reads ‘You silly mother f*****. Don’t you know I’m the best b**** in the rap game. You’ll never get away with this’ and then Azealia breaks free from the knot of ropes around her; cueing a costume change, some sexually-charged gyrating and – out of nowhere – a pit bull on a leash.

Following rave reviews from her performance at this year’s Wireless festival, Azealia will embark on a UK and European tour this autumn to promote her upcoming album. Working with dance producers such as Hudson Mohawke, Lunice and Jacques Greene amongst others, she looks set to continue on ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’ with two tracks already promised from UK treasure Lone. Make sure to heck out the video, and pick up a copy of the ‘Heavy Metal And Reflective’ here.
