The ominous Arcing Seas surface from a murky industrial warehouse for a second time to provide another stellar addition to Berlin-based techno producer Sigha’s Our Circula Sound imprint.
Clicking hats are pushed back by fierce, sharp slashing sounds, which grace the minimal elements of the records A side. Burst fires of delicate drum rolls and raining hats overtake amongst intense acid squelches as the percussion duels, interchanging position in the mix. Maybe you should never bring a gun to a knife fight, as the slashes gloat their way to Tengri’s shadowy conclusion.
On the B side, ‘Incal’ takes on a simpler structure. Repetitive growth on the tracks fluxuating synth builds tension in front of softly reverberated ride cymbals that regulate the backing. Each added element is crafted so perfectly to fit the track, creating a pensive feel where on numerous occasions I forgot I was even listening to music.
‘Sarka’ meanwhile bubbles away below circling, sharp synth pads. Churning like machinery in a busy warehouse that’s fit with all the ambiance that comes with it. Aggressive kick and hat combinations are militant, never fully going the distance of breaking the track into sections and instead, pulse their way towards the tracks eventual sedative conclusion.
Converging Prey is a dark and delicate piece of work, packing a serious punch for those lucky enough to hear it in a dimly lit room on a chest rattling sound system. Check out the SoundCloud preview below and see what you make of the title track!
