Melinki and Revaux make an explosive entrance onto A R Records with the stylish Totem EP, their first release since landing on the Bristol imprint earlier this year.
The record kicks off with ‘Totem’, an expansive roller which sets the tone for the EP – atmospheric synths switching up into moody bassline action, all underpinned by razor-sharp production chops. It’s the same story on ‘Swordplay’, which is a busier and tighter affair, while vocal-led ‘Unorthodox’ stays firmly in the darkness, a rude stomper ruled by Ozone’s bars.
Revaux claim to produce as ‘one brain with four arms’, and the duo go it alone on ‘Overpass’ where delicate piano provides the light and a thumping bass drop casts some serious shade.
