Wellski – ‘Wazzup’

Wellski – ‘Wazzup’

DJ and sound producer Wellski revives the phrase ‘Wazzup’ from its 90s grave with his latest single of the same rad name.

The song itself sounds exactly like something you’d see fly to the top of the charts simply on the back of its catchiness, its ability to compel you to dance. Is there anything more important with dance music? In the end, as long as you are so immersed in the music that you can’t stop your body from moving, nothing else matters. In this way, even that brainless selfie song and Eat Sleep Cry Eat Again or whatever it was called are means of escapism, and ‘Wazzup’ is no exception.

Sending us hugs and поцелуй all the way from St Petersburg, Russia, Wellski has used music to break the language barrier, his beat strong enough to round-house it into oblivion. The song firmly places itself in the dance and electronic music genres, easily identified by the mixture of electronic sound effects, heavily accentuated backbeats and the employment of layered, choatic sounds. However, when such full sounds are utilised, when there is a part of the song with a more basic sound, it appears bare in comparison. This makes some parts of the song seem a little lacking in substance, but this is rectified by the vigor of the more active parts.

Having worked with reputable DJs like Fedde Le Grande and soon to take a tour of Russian cities, Wellski is a capable pair of hands and has sculpted a quality piece of music. ‘Wazzup’ is due out June 20th on Azima records.
