Bringing us thundering into the New Year on a hefty techno tip is Dirty Freud with his fourth mix for The Noise Gate.
Opening up with an old school hands-in-the-air synth arpeggio from ‘The Jellyfish’ by AnD, he soon drops into his own sub & percussion-heavy number, ‘Hands of Mercy’. Refusing to play by the rules, he tips the mix on its head, letting the most energetic track ride up front, before stripping back the intensity with yet another DF original; this time his remix of ‘If I Can’t See You’ by Black Lights.
Among a vibrant haze of further cuts, including experimental trip hop from The Riddle feat. Izzy Lee-Poulton, and hip hop/dnb fusion from Principal Dean, with no shortage of upfront 4/4 beats in-between, Freud brings us two more tracks straight out of his own studio – ‘Bragging Rights’ and ‘Kaiju’.
Not without a thud, the first weekend of 2014 has well and truly landed!
